PennDOT, City of Philadelphia
$5 Million
Philadelphia, PA
December 2008 – July 2009
General Service Scope
Subcontractor performing demolition of the South Street bridge. The bridge went under Norfolk Southern, over Septa, over Amtrak, over the Schuylkill Expressway, over the Schuylkill River, and over CSX.

Project Challenge
Project included demolishing a decommissioned double leaf bascule span and picking girders from barges below. Project also included removing a span over SEPTA with limited aerial clearance due to overhead CSX bridge.
Project Solution
In-house engineering of temporary works was utilized to accommodate the project’s most complex features. This included splicing the double leaf bascule and constructing a temporary pier to allow the span over SEPTA to be removed in sections.
